I've been working on this image for two months, just tweeking it here and there, trying to get the lighting right. The idea is since Wayne and Nicki are like abstract artist in terms of content and appearance, I wanted to place them against a surreal abstract world, where the skies are green and the land mass is colorful blocks, with quirky little animals that populate it.
This is also part of a new hip hop series of images I'm putting together. Sometime next year I want to have a gallery show to display some of my work all centered around the hip hop culture, with prominent artist placed in surreal settings. Since I don't have access to shoot these celebrities myself, the final result and the timing of the show will be mainly based on the assumption that I will find enough interesting images to create enough pieces to fill a room. The other logistics will obviously have an affect...venue, time, cost etc. but I will remain hopeful...that I can make this project happen.
Nobody is bigger than Jay-Z in terms of longevity and the shear impact he has on the hip hop culture as a whole, he’s like the U2 of rap. Kanye on the other hand is also huge but not as big as Jay-z, but after seeing the preview to the “POWER” video, and knowing how creative and talented Kanye is, I just feel like he will change the game once more with his upcoming album and be the true King of Hip Hop.
This is a culmination of all my interest in one image. Hip Hop, Surrealism, Expression, Movies, Politics, People, Aliens and Fashion. It's also a representation of the enigma of Hip Hop culture.
Had to revise this image because there were a few things that weren't working very well, still a work in progress, but I feel better about this one.
Most of my best work for 07' is already posted, but this one, was one of my more creative pieces, so it had to be showcased. I was trying to make the elements of the piece interact with each other, to become one. This one I really pushed the envelope to try an make something in a style I had never tried before.
Sometimes I get extremely lucky with the images I find, this background was to die for, I mean it gets no sweeter than this... a Fight Club scenario. Plies expression is priceless, it almost looks like he's taking his chains off cause he's next up to fight.
This is the first poster I made for myself. I had it blown up and framed and it looks fucking amazing on a large scale, and the frame adds a real touch of class to it. I'll have my posters for sale real soon and everything I post on this blog will also be for sale, but not everything. Some of the posters I'll just do one copy of and have it framed. I'm a dreamer, I want my stuff to be displayed in a gallery one day, so whatever I feel like is gallery worthy, I'll keep for my personal collection.
